The queen of American daytime television, Ms Oprah Winfrey, has an annual episode in her show called Oprah´s Favourite Things. In this episode she surprises her studio audience by giving them all the things – clothing, kitchen appliances and what have you – she has loved in the course of the year.
Low2no Campers have their favourite things as well. But rather than being the perfect blender, they are events and social movements – things people do together in Helsinki. Before starting the camp, we publish some of them.
The first one comes from Inari.
Kallio-movement.
“Kallio-movement is a new neighborhood group established three days ago and having 5 109 fans on facebook. The group sprang up to protest against the eviction of a local breadline. The idea behind the group is to that besides of those neighbors who want to “clean out” the poor from their backyard there is a mass of people who want to keep up the solidarity of the area.
More largely we want to keep up the old working class area’s spirit as an open, liberal and loving community and also make it even better. Different from the eviction campaigners, we see other means to enforce the areas potentiality.
I hope that the enthusiasm of this group will make the neighborhood even more lively and bring out and together the permissive and progressive forces and people of the area.”
